Safe Routes for people on bikes | Safer Streets in MB

Protection on 4th Street. This is a critical north-south corridor in Mission Bay that currently has unprotected & dangerous bike lanes and four bike share stations. Improving cyclist safety on 4th Street will provide critical safety improvmenets for pedestrians by reducing crossing distances.

Safe route on Channel St through construction. With the current, years-long, multiple construction projects on Channel Street, cyclists need a safe temporary route from the traffic circle to 4th Street. Once Mission Creek Park construction is complete, there will be a multi-use path that is protected from vehicles available for cyclist use.

There are two recommendations from the Mission Bay School Access Project that have not been completed: a traffic circle that is safe for bikes & pedestrians (and cars), and a safe entrance to Mission Bay for cyclistss. SFMTA has identified that a jug handle at 7th and Mission Bay Drive would allow southbound cyclists on 7th St to safely turn left into Mission Bay. Both designs needs funding and implementation.

Protection on Owens Street. This section of Owens Street is included in the Biking & Rolling Plan. Today there is no infrastructure for bikes. Cyclists need a protected lane.

Close the gaps in the biking and rolling plan. Townsend between 2nd and 4th & 4th Street between Berry and Channel are the remaining safety gaps to close so that cyclists can have a safe network through Mission Bay.
